A chamber configuration for the countercurrent centrifuge and a countercurrent centrifugation system configured for low fluid volume and small radius rotation are provided. Small countercurrent centrifuge systems include reusable and disposable replaceable subsystems. The replaceable subsystem includes a separation chamber, a fluid delivery manifold, and a rotary mount connecting the separation chamber to the fluid manifold. The disposable replaceable subsystem provides a closed environment for running the countercurrent centrifugation process.
