A method for fabricating a deposit of a non-volatile biologically functional and/or biologically active substance on a substrate comprises electrospraying a solution of the non-volatile biologically functional and/or biologically active substance. The electrosprayed substance is deposited in the form of a dry deposit on contact with a surface of the substrate as biologically functional and/or biologically active substance. The spraying occurs under a voltage effective to atomize the solution without destroying the functional properties of the biologically functional and/or biologically active substance. The deposited substance can form a film on the substrate. The apparatus for depositing a sample of a non-volatile biologically functional and/or biologically active substance onto a deposit area of a substrate comprises an electrosprayer, for creating from the solution in a gas-filled space a mist of charged particles including the non-volatile biologically functional and/or biologically active substance, an
