PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simply and efficiently manufacture a tapered multifilament yarn such that the ratio of a thickness at a widest part to a thickness at a narrowest part is easily made large.SOLUTION: A tapered multifilament yarn is provided in which the thickness of a filament is changed in a longitudinal direction by supplying a drawable filament to a drawing apparatus and changing a take-off speed to a supply speed. At a part of this filament in a longitudinal direction, the part is stretched to reduce the thickness by taking off the filament under heating at a take-off speed that is faster than a supply speed, and at the other part of the filament in a longitudinal direction, the part is shrunk to increase the thickness by taking off the filament under heating at a take-off speed that is lower than a supply speed.
