Disclosed are dihydropyridinone and piperidinone compounds of formula (I), wherein the substituents are as defined in the specification. The compounds are monoacylglycerol acyltransferase type 2 (MGAT2) inhibitors which may be used as medicaments for the treatment or prophylaxis of diabetes, obesity, and dyslipidemia.
