PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water absorbing and treating material excellent in appearance before and after the use.SOLUTION: A water absorbing and treating material 1 is a water absorbing and treating material which absorbs liquid, and comprises a granular core part 10, a coating layer part 20 and a coloring agent 30. The granular core part 10 having water absorbability is formed in a granular shape. The coating layer part 20 covers the granular core part 10. The coloring agent 30 is contained in the granular core part 10 or the coating layer part 20. A core part material constituting the granular core part 10 or a coating material constituting the coating layer part 20 is colored in a predetermined color by the coloring agent 30 reacting with moisture. Before the water absorbing and treating material 1 absorbs the liquid, the coloring agent 30 in an unreacted state or in an incompletely reacted state is visible.
