A device for surgical lighting is disclosed. The device includes a light emitting element formed with a light source sealed within an outer layer. The outer layer comprises a biocompatible material. The power source is coupled to the light source. The device includes an activation mechanism that controls the power from the power source to the light source to emit light along the surgical area.
