PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a simple and inexpensive sterilization apparatus and method, for sterilizing a receptacle closure.SOLUTION: An apparatus 1 for sterilizing a receptacle closure comprises: a treatment chamber 4； feeding means for feeding the receptacle closure to the treatment chamber 4； guide rails for guiding the receptacle closure through the treatment chamber 4； feeding means for feeding receptacle closure 2 to the guide rail； sterilization agent injection device having a plurality of injection devices, each injection device associated to one of the guide rails； and control means for selectively actuating the injection devices according to an operative mode. In a first mode, the control means actuates the injection device associated to the active guide rail.
