PURPOSE:To provide a novel gene expression vector which incorporate a DNA fragment including a specific base sequence or a part thereof having a promotor activity thereinto and can be utilized in the expression control of the ADP ribosylatlon factor gene in plants. CONSTITUTION:This novel gene expression vector has a base sequence containing the base sequence represented by the formula and originates from ADP ribosylation factor (ARF) gene which is actively expressed in seeds, roots and callus, but suppressed or hardly expressed in leaves, includes the ARF gene expression-controlling area, thus can be utilized for plant breeding utilizing the expression-controlling area. This expression vector is obtained by grinding the roots of barley seedlings, extracting mRNA by a conventional process, using the mRNA as a template to prepare cDNA and a gene library and screening it with probes prepared from roots and leaves of barley, cloning a fraction showing strong signal in the root and recovering its DNA.
