A walking type rice planting machine is provided with: a shift operation shaft (411) which is slid and operated in the axis direction to change the transmission ratio of power transmitted to a left wheel (4L) and a right wheel (4R) by a power transmitting mechanism (7), and which is rotated and operated about the axis to change the transmission ratio of power transmitted to a planting device (5) by the power transmitting mechanism (7) a travel speed changing lever (437) which is disposed at a position reachable by the hand of the worker engaged in planting operation and which slides and operates the shift operation shaft (411) in the axis direction and an inter-seedling speed changing lever (435) which is disposed at a position not reachable by the hand of the worker engaged in the planting operation and which rotates and operates the shift operation shaft (411) about the axis.축선 방향으로 슬라이딩 조작됨으로써 전동 기구(7)가 왼쪽 차륜(4L) 및 오른쪽 차륜(4R)에 전달하는 동력의 변속비를 변경함과 함께, 축선 주위로 회동 조작됨으로써 전동 기구(7)가 식부 장치(5)에 전달하는 동력의 변속비를 변경하는 변속 조작축(411)과, 식부 작업 중인 작업자로부터 손이 닿는 위치에 배치되고, 변속 조작축(411)을 축선 방향으로 슬라이딩 조작하는 주행 변속 레버(437)와, 식부 작업 중인 작업자로부터 손이 닿지 않는 위치에 배치되고, 변속 조작축(411)을 축선 주위로 회동 조작하는 주간 변속 레버(435)를 구비하였다.
