A seed sensor for detecting the passage of a seed through a tube, comprising: means for emitting radiation through the tube in two orthogonal directions; means for detecting radiation transmitted through the tube in two orthogonal directions so that the passing seed interrupts the radiation incident on the radiation detection means; means for locating the seed in the vas deferens along two orthogonal directions. 2. The seed sensor according to claim 1, in which the means for detecting radiation contains two matrices of elements for detecting radiation located essentially orthogonal to each other, and the means for determining the location of the seed in the vas deferens along two orthogonal directions contains a limitation of radiation incident on each element radiation detection, before radiation passing in one of two orthogonal directions. 3. The assembly of the seed sensor for detecting the passage of the seed through the vas deferens, the vas deferens having spaced front and rear walls and spaced apart side walls, the sensor assembly comprising: an emitter on one side wall of the vas deferens; an array of radiation detection elements along the opposite side wall from the emitter and passing from the front wall to the back wall of the vas deferens; means for aligning the radiation received by the detection elements, so that each element receives radiation passing through the vas deferens essentially parallel to the front and back walls of the vas deferens, whereby the location of the seed between the front and rear walls of the de vas deferens is determined when1.
