The anesthetic cartridge is adjusted to receive the buffering capacity by moving the plunger at one end of the anesthesia cartridge inward so that the addition of buffering capacity does not displace the plunger beyond the end of the cartridge body. The internally transferred tip is protected by a cover or plug that is discharged when the buffer is added to prevent contamination.
