The disclosure relates to an endoscopic system. The system includes a single optical fiber (1602, 1702). The system may further include a light source (102) which transmits light into the single optical fiber (1602, 1702). An image sensor (114) is provided within the endoscopic system and disposed at a distal end of the single optical fiber (1602, 1702). The endoscopic system is additionally fitted with a diffuser (1604) on the distal end of the single optical fiber (1602) which outputs a light cone (1606) that may be broader than an output of the single optical fiber (1602, 1702) without the diffuser.
