PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a guide wire having excellent maneuverability and safety while securing flexibility of a distal section, and also to increase the degree of freedom of the shape of a main wire by securing a sufficient clearance between the main wire and a coil in the distal section of the guide wire.SOLUTION: A guide wire 1 has a main wire 10 made by connecting a first wire 2 arranged on the distal side and a second wire 3 arranged on the proximal side of the first wire 2 and a spiral coil 4 arranged to cover a distal section of the main wire 10. The coil 4 comprises a first coil section 41 which is located on the distal side and has an outer diameter tapered in the distal direction and a second coil section 42 which is located on the proximal side of the first coil section 41 and has an almost constant outer diameter in the longitudinal direction. The coil is fixed to the main wire 10 by means of fixing materials 51-53.
