The invention relates to compositions comprising extracts from Red Sea Sponge Amorphinopsis species, and their use in the treatment of various disorders. Exemplified is the use of the extract in the treatment of strychnine poisoning or disorders associated with glycine-receptor-regulated ligand gated ion channels. The extracts are obtained by extraction with methanol, and dried under pressure, or obtained by methanol/ dichloromethane extraction. Once the solvent has evaporated the extracted is diluted in an aqueous buffer or water.
