The present invention relates to a composition for preventing, alleviating or treating prostate diseases comprising an extract of Panicum dichotomiflorum as an effective component. The extract of Panicum dichotomiflorum, which is an effective component of the present invention, reduces the weight of enlarged prostate by benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), inhibits the expression of androgenic receptors or prostate specific antigen protein, and significantly reduces the level of testosterone and DHT in serum and prostate.본 발명은 미국개기장 추출물을 유효성분으로 포함하는 전립선 질환의 예방, 개선 또는 치료용 조성물에 관한 것이다. 본 발명의 유효성분인 미국개기장 추출물은 전립선 비대(BPH)에 의해 비후화된 전립선의 무게를 감소시키며, 안드로겐 수용체(androgenic receptor) 또는 전립선 특이항원(prostate specific antigen) 단백질의 발현을 억제할 뿐만 아니라, 혈청 및 전립선 내 테스토스테론 및 DHT의 함량을 현저하게 감소시킬 수 있다.
