The present invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition comprising orexin A for treating diabetes. The orexin A promotes secretion of leptin and reduces secretion of insulin when the blood sugar is low, thereby preventing hypoglycemia. Accordingly, through coadministration of orexin A and a hypoglycemic agent or insulin preparation which is a medicine for diabetes, hypoglycemia, which is a side effect caused by a hypoglycemic agent or insulin preparation, can be prevented or treated.본 발명은 오렉신 A를 함유하는 당뇨병 치료용 약학 조성물에 관한 것이다. 상기 오렉신 A는 혈당이 낮은 경우에 렙틴의 분비를 촉진하여 인슐린의 분비를 감소시킴으로서 저혈당을 방지하는 효과를 나타낸다. 따라서 오렉신 A와 당뇨병 치료제인 혈당강하제 또는 인슐린제제를 병용 투여하여 혈당강하제 또는 인슐린제제에 의해 나타나는 부작용인 저혈당을 예방 또는 치료할 수 있다.
