The present invention relates to a neuroprotective composition comprising an extract or a fraction of Aspergillus terreus as an active ingredient. The composition of the present invention can be used as a pharmaceutical composition for preventing and treating nerve cell related diseases such as cerebral ischemia caused by neuronal death, stroke, head trauma, hypoxia, and Huntington&prime；s disease since the Aspergillus terreus extract or the fraction thereof has an excellent effect of suppressing toxicity of neuronal cells due to glutamate, has an excellent effect for preventing brain nerve cell death caused by toxicity of the nerve cells, and is safe to human body since the extract has no cytotoxicity.본 발명은 아스퍼질러스 테레우스(Aspergillus terreus) 추출물 또는 이의 분획물을 유효성분으로 함유하는 신경보호용 약학적 조성물에 관한 것으로 아스퍼질러스 테레우스 추출물 또는 이의 분획물은 글루타메이트(Glutamate)에 의한 신경세포의 독성을 억제하는 효과가 뛰어나고, 이로 인하여 신경세포 독성으로 유발되는 뇌 신경세포사를 방지하는 효과가 우수할 뿐만 아니라, 세포 독성이 없어 인체에 안전하므로, 신경세포사에 의해 발병되는 뇌허혈, 뇌졸중, 뇌 외상, 저산소증(hypoxia) 및 헌팅턴(Huntington)병 등의 신경세포 관련 질환의 예방 및 치료용 약학적 조성물로 유용하게 사용될 수 있다.
