To provide an awakening system for supporting comfortable waking of a user.
SOLUTION: The awakening system 1 includes an illumination section 2 for applying awakening light and an alarm section 3, a control section 4, an operation section 5, an interface section 6 capable of various setting and a clock section 7, and a body movement detection section 8 for detecting body movement of a sleeper. The operation section 5 calculates an illumination START time which is earlier than a getting-up set time by a prescribed time and transmits it to the control section 4. When the illumination START time arrives and the control section 4 starts illumination by the illumination section 2, and increases output from the illumination section 2, based ON a gradual-increase pattern. When a body movement of the sleeper detected by the body movement detection section 8 becomes larger than a threshold determined beforehand, the control section 4 continues illumination by a quick-increase pattern for increasing output more quickly than the gradual-increase pattern by recognizing that the sleeper shows a waking reaction and maximizes the illumination output. Comfortable waking is supported, because the sleeper is guided from a light sleeping state into a waked state quickly, by increase of the illumination output at the point of time and when the waking reaction is detected by detection of the body movement.
