PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water-absorbing resin with high productivity, which is a water-absorbing resin obtained by using a raw material derived from biomass, and exhibits a high water absorption rate capable of sufficiently responding to required performance in practical use and in particular, a high water absorption rate under no pressure and a high water absorption rate under pressure.SOLUTION: A method for producing the water-absorbing resin includes: a polymerizing step of an aqueous monomer solution containing, as an essential component, an acid group-containing unsaturated monomer a drying step of the obtained water-containing gel and a surface crosslinking step of crosslinking the surface of water-absorbing resin particles after drying.
