PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water-absorbing resin with a high water-retaining ability and a high water-absorbing ability capable of being preferably used for a sanitation material, and to provide its manufacturing method.
SOLUTION: In the method for manufacturing the water-absorbing resin by polymerizing a water-soluble ethylenic unsaturated monomer, a polymerization reaction of the water-soluble ethylenic unsaturated monomer is performed in the presence of a diamine compound represented by the formula (I) (wherein R
1 represents a 1-6C straight alkylene group or a phenylene group, and R2 , R3 , R4 and R5 each independently represent a methyl group, an ethyl group or a hydrogen atom) or its salt and a water-soluble radical polymerization initiator, and after the polymerization reaction, a cross-linking agent is added to perform a cross-linking reaction.
