A milk chiller operation alarm which alerts the user when the milk chiller is inactive at completion of a milking session. The alarm includes at least one milking machine assembly activity sensor, at least one milk chiller activity sensor and at least one alarm indicator. The alarm indicator is arranged to be activated if a chiller activity sensor detects that the milk chiller is inactive after a milking machine assembly activity sensor detects that the milking machine assembly has changed from an active to an inactive state. The activity sensors may comprise an electrical current sensor to the appliance preferably the current sensor uses an induction effect when placed close to the supply line to detect current. The alarm may comprise a light or audio arrangement and may be activated at a location remote from the milking machine.
