In accordance with the present invention, a mini grain combine is modified for the harvesting of cotton" by replacing the cutter bar of a conventional combine and mounting a plurality of closely spaced cotton stripping fingers of specific design on the forward edge of the machine platform to strip cotton bolls from the stalks as the harvester moves along the rows of cotton or across them in the field. A rotating reel mounted above the stripping fingers feeds the stripped bolls rearward into an auger and the stripped bolls are then fed into the cylinder-concave threshing unit of the machine. During its passage through the cylinder unit, the stems, leaves, and other trash material fed into the machine with the cotton are broken up or pulverized and drop through the modified openings in the grid concave unit, while the cotton fibres, together with a residual amount of trash, being lighter in weight are blown by a draft of air from a blower placed below the concave unit, in to a specially designed precleaner suitable to be attached to the cotton harvester, where a further separation of trash from the cotton fibres is accomplished. The cleaned harvested cotton from the precleaner then flows to a collection basket having perforations for further removal of dust and finer particles of trash
