Um den Gegendruck beim Entlüften möglichst gering halten zu können und so das Auspressen von Luft aus dem Pleuraraum (1) eines Patienten zu erleichtern, weist die Entlüftungseinrichtung ein steuerbares Entlüftungsventil (12) auf. Eine Steuereinrichtung (7) ermittelt dazu den Druck im Sekretsammelbehälter, indem sie einen Drucksensor (11) ausliest, und steuert das Ventil an, um den Sekretsammelbehälter zu entlüften, wenn der ermittelte Druck einen Schwellwert übersteigt. Über einen Vakuumanschluss (25) ist die Vorrichtung optional auch aktiv betreibbar.
