The alginate derivative of the present invention is zwitterionic so as to avoid non-specific interactions with serum proteins present in a cell culture solution or blood, and inhibits non-specific intake thereof to organs or tissues other than a target organ or tissue so as to form a conjugate with an image contrast medium or a drug while enabling stable circulation in the blood, thereby being applicable to a contrast medium composition or a pharmaceutical composition.
