PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the use of effectors of QC-activity in combination with inhibitors of DP IV (dipeptidyl peptidase IV) or a DP IV-like enzyme for the treatment or alleviation of conditions that can be treated by modulation of QC- and DP IV-activity.SOLUTION: Novel physiological substrates of mammalian glutaminyl cyclase (QC, EC 2.3.2.5), new effectors of QC, a screening method for such effectors, such effectors for the treatment of disease treatable by modulation of QC-activity, and pharmaceutical compositions comprising such effectors are provided.
