The present invention relates to compositions suitable for topical application comprising water, dimethylisosorbide, polyols and phenolic or polyphenolic antioxidants. Methods for making compositions according to the present invention are also part of the present invention, such as kits for making compositions. Alternatively, the phenolic or polyphenolic antioxidant is provided in the form of a lyophilizate for the methods and kits.
