PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an air conditioner that can enhance air cleaning efficiency without increasing an amount of air blown.SOLUTION: When air cleaning performance is enhanced by increasing an amount of ions discharged, or when the air cleaning performance is enhanced by increasing a circulation speed of air in a room, control is performed so as to stop a louver 7 provided at an end of an air blowing chamber 13, at a predetermined turning position to reduce an opening area of an air blowing port 18 formed by a wall surface 13a of the air blowing chamber 13 and an opposed surface 70b of the louver 7, without increasing an amount of air of an air blowing fan. By reducing the opening area of the air blowing port 18, an air speed is increased, and the amount of ions discharged and the circulation speed of air can be increased.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 6
