Disclosed herein are methods for generating NK cells that contain one or more heterologous nucleic acids. The method includes culturing a population of isolated NK cells in the presence of one or more cytokines to generate a population of activated NK cells. A population of activated NK cells is transduced with a viral vector containing one or more heterologous nucleic acids, for example, by contacting the activated NK cells with viral particles containing the viral vector.
