A retinal fundus imaging apparatus and method employing Maxwellian illumination is described. The retinal illumination is focused at and passes through an illumination region within a working area, the working area being within and concentric with the circular ocular lens. The working area also includes a second, collection region through which the retinal reflection passes. The two regions (that is, the illumination region and the collection region) are separated and located on opposing sides of the working area so as to reduce or substantially remove unwanted lenticular backscatter from the collection path.Linvention concerne un appareil et un procédé dimagerie du fond rétinien utilisant un éclairage de Maxwell.Léclairage rétinien est focalisé sur une région déclairage à lintérieur de la zone de travail et traversant cette région, la zone de travail se trouvant à lintérieur de la lentille oculaire circulaire et étant concentrique par rapport à cette dernière.La zone de travail comprend aussi une deuxième région de collecte, par laquelle passe la réflexion rétinienne.Les deux régions (cest-à-dire la région déclairage et la région de collecte) sont séparées et localisées sur les côtés opposés de la zone de travail de façon à réduire ou supprimer fortement la rétrodiffusion lenticulaire indésirable provenant du chemin de collecte.
