A device and method for measuring movement of a body part of a subject. The method illustratively includes mounting on the body part, via at least one dielectric, at least two conductive elements in a manner as to define a fixed spacing between the elements and wherein the distance between the conductive elements and the body part varies with movement of the body part. Changes are measured in capacitance between the elements and the body part that result from movement of the body part. Data associated with the changes in capacitance is transmitted to a personal computing device
