PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an authentication method capable of authenticating a gesture of a user by using not only a result of behavior which is contact and the like, but also a step of the behavior.SOLUTION: A portable device 3 is attached to a user by an attachment part 19, and an s-EMG signal detection part 15 detects an s-EMG signal by the sensor. The s-EMG signal is generated by electrical activity of muscle fibers during shrinkage, and is detected on a skin surface. An authentication device 5 uses the s-EMG signal detected according to a gesture of a user, for authentication. The gesture may be for example, bending of finger(s) or wrist. The user can perform the gesture with concealment, for example in a pocket.
