PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an excellent refreshing flavoring composition which has increased aroma and flavor such as refreshing sensation of menthol and does not taste or smell peculiar.

SOLUTION: The refreshing sensation of menthol can be increased by combining menthol with quinic acid, a salt thereof, a quinic acid ester derivative or an extract of a naturally occurring substance containing them. The quinic acid derivatives themselves do not have any strong flavor and are sufficiently effective at a small amount, so they can be combined with menthol without giving any peculiar taste or smell.
