PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a stair-climbing device for a wheelchair.SOLUTION: The stair-climbing device comprises: support units a climbing unit connected to the support units and a control unit for controlling the operation of the climbing unit, wherein the climbing unit comprises at least one climbing elements, which can be driven by a driving motor and is designed such that it can get in contact with the upper surface of a next step of a stair and lift or lower the stair-climbing device on the next step, and also includes a detection unit which detects the current positions of the support units with respect to one or a plurality of steps of the stair and comprises at least one non-contact sensor. The detection unit provides signals to the control unit, which signals contain information about the current positions of the support units with respect to one or more steps of the stair.
