To provide a magnetic resonance imaging apparatus which efficiently corrects shading with high accuracy.SOLUTION: The magnetic resonance imaging apparatus includes an estimation unit, an image generation unit, and a correction unit. The estimation unit estimates transmission variations occurring in a transmission RF magnetic field from a first image on the basis of a first reception signal received by a whole body coil, and estimates reception variations occurring in a reception RF magnetic field from the first image and a second image on the basis of a second reception signal received by a surface coil. The image generation unit generates a third image of a resolution higher than resolutions of the first and second images, on the basis of a third reception signal received by the surface coil.
