Herpes simplex virus type-2 (HSV-2) infection is a major health concern. The present disclosure provides, among other things, certain highly effective vaccines and immunogenic compositions against HSV-2. Antigens can be used therapeutically or prophylactically. In one aspect, the present invention provides a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier, an adjuvant, and a nucleotide encoding at least one of a polypeptide having SEQ ID NO: 1, 3, 5, 38, or 138, or an immunogenic fragment thereof.
