The present invention relates to a large scale industrial process for the production of (R)-(+)- [4-(5-chloro-3-fluoropyridin-2-yloxy) propionic acid propinyl ester (I). The process results in the production of the desired (R)-isomer in high yield, purity and selectivity. The corresponding, undesired (S)-isomer is formed in less than 0.5%.
