A novel apparatus for producing biomass of filter feeding crustaceans with improved nutritional value. The apparatus comprises mainly, a biomass production zone, solid feed production zones, a pump in fluid connection with both the zones, inlet and out let sluices, over flow sluice, screens, turbidity scale and gas diffuser pipes. Also disclosed is a method for producing the biomass by culturing the filter feeding crustaceans in a suitable culture media in the apparatus. The pH of the media is kept at 7- 9 and the stocking density of the crustaceans at 100- 900 nos per liter. The crustaceans are fed on plankton produced in the solid feed production zone where Cichlids are stocked to enhance and sustain the plankton production. The animals are gown to adult and allowed to reproduce. The adults are harvested keeping the young ones for the next production cycle. FIG.l
