The present disclosure relates to the field of antimicrobial agents. In particular, the present disclosure relates to the use of aerosolized fluoroquinolones formulated with divalent or trivalent cations and having improved pulmonary availability for the treatment and management of bacterial infections of the lung and upper respiratory tract. In particular is the use of a solution comprising about 90 mg/ml to about 125 mg/ml of levofloxacin or ofloxacin and about 100 mM to about 250 mM of a divalent or trivalent cation, for the preparation of an aerosol for treating a pulmonary infection or a chronic lung infection such as a patient with bronchiectasis or in a patient with a Mycobacterium pulmonary infection. .
