The slide (10) carries a rack whose teeth (22, 23) interact with a ratchet device (39) driven in a to-and-fro movement by a ram (27). A sole plate (32) raises the ratchet device (39) during a part of the to-and-fro movement so that it interacts, when raised, only with the first tooth (22) which is higher than the other teeth (23) of the rack. Application: for example, to the conveying of cell plates used for sewing and pricking-out in horticulture and market gardening. <IMAGE>
