The present invention relates to a composition for skin whitening or a composition for treating skin pigment diseases caused by hyperaccumulation or abnormal accumulation of melanin containing N-phenyl-N-(1,3-thiazol-2-yl)thiourea as an active ingredient. The composition of the present invention shows excellent whitening effects by inhibiting tyrosinase involved in generation of melanin and reducing the biosynthesis amount of melanin.
