A moisture absorbent material comprising a psyllium foam is provided. A method of manufacturing a moisture absorbent material comprising the steps (a) forming a psyllium gel from an aqueous psyllium solution and (b) creating a psyllium foam from the psyllium gel is outlined. A wound dressing, haemostat dressing, hygiene article, sanitary pad, liquid filtration medium and food packaging comprising the psyllium foam absorbent material is provided. The psyllium foam is preferably derived from psyllium husk, which may be derived from one or more of Plantago Ovata, Plantago major, P. psyllium, P. amplexicauli, P. asiatica, P. lanceolate, P. insularis. The foam may optionally contain one or more of hydrogen peroxide, a polysorbate, lecithin, calcium chloride dihydrate, glycerol, propylene glycol, pectin, chitosan, gelatin, carboxymethylcellulose, ferric sulfate dihydrate, an alginate, silk or lithium bromide.
