The invention relates to a composition containing, as active substances, ectoine, hydroxyectoine and/or salts, esters or amides of these compounds for stimulating sirtuin activity, in particular for the treatment of diseases associated with reduced sirtuin activity. This includes, in particular, different aging disorders and diseases which occur in particular in old age or are associated with disturbed cell differentiation or cell growth.
