Methods and kits for removing calculus from a tooth, wherein the method can include applying a component A to the tooth, wherein component A comprises: a metal ion selected from the group of lithium ion, magnesium ion, calcium ion, a precursor thereto, and a combination thereof； and an aprotic base having a pKb in water of greater than 15.4, or a precursor thereto； applying a component B to the tooth, wherein component B comprises a bicarbonate ion or a precursor thereto； wherein components A and B are applied simultaneously or sequentially to the tooth, thereby generating a gas to soften and/or loosen at least part of the calculus on the tooth； and removing at least a part of the calculus from the tooth.L'invention concerne des procédés et des kits servant à éliminer le tartre d'une dent, le procédé peut consister: à appliquer sur la dent un constituant A, le constituant A comprenant : un ion métallique choisi dans le groupe constitué par un ions lithium, un ion magnésium, un ion calcium, un précurseur de celui-ci, et une combinaison de ceux-ci； et une base aprotique ayant un pKb dans l'eau supérieur à 15,4, ou un précurseur de celle-ci； à appliquer sur la dent un constituant B, le constituant B comprenant un ion bicarbonate ou un précurseur de celui-ci； les constituants A et B étant appliqués simultanément ou séquentiellement à la dent, ce qui génère un gaz pour ramollir et/ou desserrer au moins une partie du tartre sur la dent； et à retirer au moins une partie du tartre de la dent.
