The present invention provides novel indole derivatives offormula (I) and pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof:wherein R1 is a halogen, or alkyl, R2 is hydrogen, orhalogen, Ar is phenyl, or thienyl, which may be substitutedwith halogen, alkyl, alkoxy, alkylthio, etc. Thesecompounds have utility for example as inhibitors ofsodium-dependent glucose transporters (SGLT).(see formula I)
