Power cables with improved durability, associated assembly and use methods are described herein. The power cable is adapted for use in powering the implantable circulation pump system. The cable includes one or more conductors of uninsulated wire strands loosely packed to move relative to each other during cable flexure. The drive line cable includes a plurality of conductors of conductive material, each consisting of a plurality of uninsulated bundles of loosely packed wire strands that are not insulated and wound around a central core. The cable includes at least six conductors, each conductor having at least 200 wire strands greater than or equal to 30 gauge.
