Disclosed is an isolated polypeptide consisting of an amino acid sequence having at least 98% identity to SEQ ID NO: 48, wherein the variable amino acid positions of SEQ ID NO: 48 consist of at least one of Asn at position 31, Phe at position 115, Gly at position 127, Gly at position 162, Asn at position 280, and Pro at position 330 wherein the SEQ ID is as disclosed in the specification. Also disclosed are methods of producing the said polypeptide, and the use of the polypeptide in the manufacture of a medicament for treating viral infection in a mammal wherein said polypeptide comprises oligoadenylate synthetase 1 (OAS1).
