The present invention relates to a lightweight base material for moss growth and a manufacturing method thereof in order to easily maintain and use moss. According to an embodiment of the present invention, the lightweight base material for moss growth comprises main soil, a humectant for moisture absorption, a binder to bind components, a growth accelerator, a hardening agent, and water. The main soil, the humectant, the binder, and the water are respectively included in contents of 100-120 parts by weight, 5-10 parts by weight, 0.3-0.5 parts by weight, and 100-120 parts by weight. The main soil comprises: 50-60 parts by weight of composted bark, 15-25 parts by weight of granitic soil, 10-20 parts by weight of loess, 15-25 parts by weight of pig excrement, 5-10 parts by weight of peat moss, and 5-10 parts by weight of zeolite. The humectant comprises: 1-2 parts by weight of a super absorbent polymer and 3-9 parts by weight of charcoal powder.
