A method of reducing the number and severity of acute asthma attacks in a patient with asthma, comprising administering to a patient with acute asthma attacks a history of an effective amount of an antibody to an interleukin-5 receptor (IL-5R) or an antigen-binding fragment thereof. The method of claim 1, wherein severe acute attacks of the patient are characterized by one or more symptoms selected from the group consisting of: (a) wheezing； (b) shortness of breath； (c) forced expiratory volume in 1 second (FEV) of not more than 60%, 70% or 80% of the predicted value； (d) peak expiratory flow rate (PEF) of not more than 60%, 70% or 80% of the predicted value； (e) coughing； and (f) two or more symptoms. 3. The method of claim 1, wherein the patient’s seizures cannot be treated with bronchodilators. The method according to claim 1, wherein the number of acute attacks is reduced within a 12-week period after administration of the antibody or antigen-binding fragment thereof as compared with the number of attacks estimated in accordance with the patient’s medical history. The method of claim 1, wherein the number of seizures is reduced within a 24-week period after administration of the antibody or antigen-binding fragment thereof compared with the number of seizures estimated in accordance with the patient’s medical history. The method of claim 4, wherein the number of recurrent seizures is reduced by at least 40% over a 12-week period. A method according to claim 1, wherein the severity of one or more acute seizures is reduced, compared with the severity of the seizures, as proposed in accordance with the patient’s medical history.
