The present invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition comprising an extract of Rosa rugosa flowers as an active ingredient for preventing or treating IL-6 (interleukin-6)-mediated diseases, and a method for treating IL-6 (interleukin-6)-mediated diseases, comprising a step of administering the composition to a subject suffering from IL-6-mediated diseases. In addition, the present invention relates to a food composition, a sanitary-aid composition and a feed composition for preventing or improving IL-6-mediated diseases, which comprise an extract of Rosa rugosa flowers as an active ingredient. The composition according to the present invention inhibits a signal transfer system induced by IL-6 and suppresses differentiation of osteoclast, and thus is useful for preventing or treating IL-6-mediated diseases, such as osseous metabolic diseases, inflammatory bowel diseases or atopic dermatitis. Particularly, unlike the extracts of the other portions, the extract according to the present invention is not cytotoxic, is derived from a naturally occurring material that has been used as food for a long time, and thus can be used for the treatment of the diseases without side-effects.본 발명은 해당화(Rosa rugosa) 꽃 추출물을 유효성분으로 포함하는, IL-6(interleukin-6) 매개성 질환의 예방 또는 치료용 약학적 조성물 및 상기 조성물을 IL-6 매개성 질환 의심 개체에 투여하는 단계를 포함하는, IL-6 매개성 질환의 치료 방법에 관한 것이다. 또한, 본 발명은 해당화 꽃 추출물을 유효성분으로 포함하는, IL-6 매개성 질환의 예방 또는 개선용 식품 조성물, 의약외품 조성물 및 사료조성물에 관한 것이다. 본 발명은 IL-6에 의해 유도되는 신호전달체계를 저해하고, 파골세포 분화를 억제함으로써 IL-6 매개성 질환, 예컨대, 골 대사성 질환, 염증성 장질환, 또는 아토피 피부염의 예방 또는 치료에 있어 유용하게 이용될 수 있으며, 특히, 다른 부위의 추출물과 달리 세포독성이 없고, 오랫동안 식품으로 사용되어온 천연물에서 유래되어 부작용이 없이 상기 질환의 치료에 이용될 수 있는 이점이 있다.
