PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide further antigens for use in immunization against pathogenic E.coli strains, particularly against ExPEC strains, and more particularly against MNEC strains.SOLUTION: There are disclosed open reading frames from a strain of E.coli responsible for neonatal meningitis (MNEC), and a subset of these particularly relating to the preparation of compositions for immunizing against MNEC infections. The present invention also relates to nucleic acids encoding a polypeptide, and to monoclonal antibodies specific for the polypeptide. The polypeptides, nucleic acids and antibodies can be used in medicine and in the manufacture of a medicament for raising an immune response in a patient. The present invention also relates to pharmaceutical compositions comprising the polypeptide, nucleic acid or antibody in admixture with a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier.
